Friday I went for my first official OB appointment. We had some test & we filled out a bunch of paperwork in order to create my OB chart. My pregnancy is considered high risk due to my age (almost 35), and the fact that I have twins. Because of my age, I am at increased risk of having a baby with down syndrome. The hospital plans on sending me for a few blood test in about a week, that can help determine my actually risk ratio. I'm not worried, I know my babies are healthy. Other than that, I have a great team of doctors & an awesome midwife that will be mainly following my care. I work on Labor & Delivery at the same hospital that I will be delivering at, so I have a professional & now a personal relationship with my doctors. It is pretty cool.....We also got another ultrasound, and Phil got to be there for this one. We got to hear their individual heartbeats too! We were both amazed at how much they had changed in a week! With the last ultrasound, they looked like little peanuts, now they really look like babies! Baby B was just chillin & not really moving around, until Baby A kicked it into high gear. Next thing you know, they were both dancing away in my belly!! So cute!! Baby A was 1.4 inches & her :) heart rate was 176. Baby B was 1.5 inches & his :) heart rate was 171. No I don't know the sexes yet, but I have a feeling. I think we have to wait till at least 16 or 18 wks to find out.

10 weeks pregnant

I am 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. We have our official first OB appointment on Friday. I am hoping that our pregnancy schedule will be laid out a little clearer for us. When we will need to have what test & ultrasounds. I am still feeling pretty good, and maybe even a little better. Today, when leaving church, the priest noticed my little bump & blessed the twins. :) I didn't think that I was really even showing too much yet, but he noticed. Here is a picture of my 10 week belly.

So yesterday was my confirmation ultrasound. Babies were a little too small to get an accurate due date last time, but this time they were measuring right on target. Babies looked great! I am 9 weeks & 2 days today & my new due date is October 24th! It kinda felt real before, but seeing those too little peanuts squirming away on the ultrasound really made it feel real yesterday. We are so excited!! Here are the pictures. :)

Hello again....Not much to update today. I am 8 weeks 3 days, and my next ultrasound is Wednesday the 14th. I am barely showing, but I might have a little pouch. I wake up every two hours at night to pee & am tired all the time. I feel really hungry every two hours, but when I go to eat I can only handle a few bites. I have occasional nausea, but I can usually get it to pass by stopping whatever I was doing or by taking Zofran. We are really excited that we are having twins, but have not bought one thing for the babies yet. Our parents tell us to wait on buying anything for the babies until after the shower, but every time I talk to my mom she is buying something for them:) We don't mind one bit though. We are just glad we have such supportive & excited parents/grandparents. Well, here is my 8 week belly shot. Looking forward to the next month having more to report.....

It's TWINS!!

So, we had our first ultrasound today, and we are excited to announce that it's TWINS!!!

As the doctor was doing the ultrasound we right away saw two sacks of fluid, but it was hard to make out if anything was in the sacks. As the doctor moved the ultrasound around, the 1st heartbeat jumped out at us (confirming one). I was relieved to see that heartbeat, because up until then, I was starting to worry again that maybe I wasn't pregnant. I have just felt so normal so far, with only mild occasional nausea, "knock on wood"... :)

She moved the ultrasound to the second sack & was trying to visualized if anything was in there. Then, all of a sudden at the very bottom of the little sack of fluid, there was another tiny little speck with a heartbeat beating away! I couldn't believe it, and from my angle I couldn't really see the heartbeat at first, but Phil said he saw it right away, clear as day. Before seeing the heartbeat, I was thinking the 2nd bag of fluid was part of my swollen fallopian tubes, and I was waiting for the doctor to say, "no, that must be just part of the ......" But instead, she said, "yes, there is definitely a second heartbeat. " Phil and I looked at each other with a look of half excitement & half shock! We both said, just wait till we tell our parents!!

The doctor measured the babies, and one baby measured 6 weeks 3 days, and the other measured 6 weeks 4 days. According to my invetro cycle I should be 7 weeks 1 day, so we questioned how the days could be so far off. The doctor really didn't have an answer, but she wants to see me back in 2 weeks (14 April) for a confirmation of dates ultrasound. As of now, my due date is Halloween for twins or November 20th for one child. She also recommended that I schedule a planned c-section, because of my extensive surgical history and all my scar tissue. She is worried that if I attempt a vaginal delivery and end up needing an emergency c-section, that it will be harder to get to the babies quick enough, and could cause them/me more harm. If the c-section is planned, she will go through my old scar and have a general surgeon in the room to help out.

We had such a good time telling the family. We already got to shock them once when we told them we were pregnant, now it was time to shock them again. My dad and sisters, and Phil's mom were already betting that it was twins, but I don't think anyone really was prepared for the truth. We called my parents first, and my mom was shopping in Walmart at the time. I told her, "well, are you ready for the new? It's Twins!" She started saying, "no it's not, no it's NOT, no it's not" in disbelief and waiting for me to say "just kidding". I kept responding "yes it is, yes it is, yes it is". She started crying in walmart as she continued to say "no it's not"!! Of course after she realized I wasn't kidding, she wanted all the details & we filled her in. My dad and sisters were also shocked, but of course they said, "see, I told you it was twins!!"
Phil's mom and dad were also shocked and very excited for the news. When we told Phil's mom, she screamed "TWINS" & just kept repeating, "it's twin's, it's twins, were gonna have twins, twins, and she too began to cry. At that point I began to cry with excitement too. Phil's sister's reacted with screams of excitement too.....And we are still in shock!!

For the rest of the day, we had fun calling all our friends and passing the good news. We just kept looking at each other and giggling at the fact that we will soon have an instant family of four & our lives are about to change forever. We have to buy two of everything!! We can't believe that there are two little babies growing in my belly & I make up three people right now!! Candice took us out to dinner to The Melting Pot, to celebrate our great news, and she promises to help out as much as possible :-) Thank you Candice........We love her...

I started surfing the web & reading blogs about mother's with twins. There is so much to learn and do! How does one person fly, or grocery shop, with twin babies? So many challenges!! Today I plan on joining the "Mother's with multiples" website & "Morethanone.com." I also need to call the daycare center to tell them to add another baby. These next 7 months should be fun!!

Morning Sickness

This morning, I woke up feeling great; almost too good. Phil came up behind me and asked how I was feeling, and I told him fine. We both were beginning to worry a little bit about how normal I still feel. Even at work, my friend asked me if I have felt sick, and I bragged about not having any morning sickness.... To ease my worry about still being pregnant, I decided to do another pregnancy test at the hospital.

I didn't have to worry long.... I would say, it wasn't even 10 minutes after doing the test that I started feeling nauseated. I bought a big sprite and started sipping it slowly. It helped the nausea a little bit, but it kept coming back in waves. :( I guess I deserve a little morning sickness since I was bragging about not having it. I got my pregnancy test back & my HCG levels are still climbing in the right direction and at the perfect level.

On a different note, Kristin is in town and we went shopping today for maternity/comfy clothes. We also stopped by the store to stock up on some basic pregnancy necessities... Crackers at bedside, preggie pops in purse, barf bag in car, and sprite in fridge. I am trying to be prepared for the worst. Tomorrow is our 1st pregnancy class that goes over the do's and don'ts of pregnancy. Phil and I are taking it together and looking forward to learning a little about what is to come...
